Scott Kalitta Has Fatal Accident at Englishtown

 In the final round of qualifying at Englishtown, NJ for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Kalitta's car exploded as it went down the track and crashed at the end of the track. Kalitta was taken to Old Bridge Township Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Kalitta, 46, was a a two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion with 18 victories during his career, his last coming in Chicago in 2005 in Top Fuel.
He started his career in 1982 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, the track that would also end his life. He retired in 1997, but after two seasons he heard the call of his passion and returned in 1999. He retired again at the end of the 1999 season, but returned again in 2003 joining his cousin Doug as the second driver for the family team.
 Two weeks ago he finished runner-up at Chicago in his 36th career NHRA final round appearance two weeks ago.
Kalitta leaves behind a wife, Kathy, and two sons, Corey ,14, and Colin, 8. As well as his father, former NHRA driver and team owner, Connie Kalitta.
